Don’t stop now! Continue the important and amazing work we did in the first puppy class. Working together, we’ll maintain your puppy’s bite inhibition and continue to nurture a well-socialized and friendly dog. And, as your pup’s confidence and skill grow, yours will, too! You’ll learn how to proof behaviors without food lures, how to increase distance in the yard and at dog parks, and how to settle down (useful when Aunt Edna comes to visit and the dog goes bonkers!). This is where it all comes together to create a dog that responds quickly and happily, even amidst distractions or off-leash.
Additionally, when you successfully complete Puppy 1 and Puppy 2 classes, you’ll get an application to send to the AKC for enrollment in the S.T.A.R. Puppy Program. All dogs, including purebreds and mixed breeds, are welcome to participate in the program. Your puppy will receive the AKC S.T.A.R. Puppy Medal, and you’ll both be listed in the AKC S.T.A.R. Puppy records. You’ll also receive the S.T.A.R. Puppy package that includes:

- AKC Puppy Handbook
- Discount to enroll in AKC Reunite, a 24-hour recovery service

Puppy 2 Curriculum
- Continuing functional socialization from Puppy 1
- Improving reliability
- The Stand position, plus advanced position changes
- Adding distance, distraction, & duration to Stays
- The Come-to-Heel maneuver
- Improving Leave-it walking past items on the ground
- Improving overall leash technique
- Precision Heeling
- S.T.A.R. Puppy Test Included!
Need to know:
Age: 18 weeks up to 1 year at the class start date.
Prerequisite: Puppies must have completed Simpawtico’s Puppy Class 1.
Vaccines: Rabies and vaccines must be up to date.
Length and Fee:
The fee is $160, including sales tax
The class fee includes six consecutive weekly sessions, email notes, and video lessons.
Each session is approximately 50 minutes and will meet on the same day and time each week. A minimum of 3 dogs is required to run a class.
The testing fee for the S.T.A.R. Puppy test is included in the class price, although the AKC’s fee to submit paperwork to get your puppy’s certificate is not.

While we wish we could accommodate every eager pup parent, our limited enrollment means securing a spot in this coveted class will be competitive. To provide the best experience for everyone involved, we kindly ask that applicants meet the following criteria:
