The ability to resist a temptation, an urge, or an impulse. It’s a reflection of a learner’s ability to self regulate the stimulation level in their own nervous system and it’s a skill that can (and should) be developed. The failure to be able to resist impulses is the underlying problem for the most common behaviors that owners complain about. As a result, many behaviors we teach have both a practical use as well as teaching good Impulse Control. We view cultivating Impulse Control as a sort of “character trait.”
