In scent detection, once a dog knows what the target odor is and the dog knows a focused response, then we want the dog to demonstrate Obedience to Odor. This means that the dog must stay with the odor. Once it gives a Focused Response, it can’t be pulled away. It’s obedient to the odor alone, sometimes contrary to the handler’s direction.
