The motion or orientation of an organism in response to a touch stimulus. Animals that are positively thigmotactic move into touch, while those that are negatively thigmotactic move away from it. Neonatal puppies commonly display positive thigmotaxis.

This is commonly referred to by trainers as the “Oppositional Reflex,” although this is incorrect. Past the neonatal stage it is not typically observed in dogs and opposition to pressure is a response rather than a reflex.
