The removal of an unpleasant stimulus in order to increase the frequency of a desirable behavior. Use of this is also commonly called “Escape Training.” A common example is when a continuous stimulation from an electronic collar is applied to a non-compliant dog, then the stimulation immediately stops upon the dog’s desired response. As a result, the dog is more likely to comply during the next trial of that behavior. R- is one of the quadrants of Operant Conditioning.
