A descriptive system for how organisms learn, developed by B.F. Skinner in the 1940’s. It is a cornerstone of applied psychology. Any organism with a nervous system will respond to Operant Conditioning.

There are four quadrants in Operant Conditioning: Positive Reinforcement, Negative Reinforcement, Positive Punishment, and Negative Punishment. Understanding how these four components work together and how to implement each one effectively is at the heart of a robust training program.
