Traditionally, rewards were looked upon as things. The items a dog was receiving—food, toys, praise—were more important than the event. At Simpawtico we look at rewards as something interactive that happens with the dog that varies in duration and intensity. As such, we spend time developing value and passion with the Reward. The goal is build a reward event we are present in, and the dog is motivated to want it. We get better attention and engagement, and the harder they’ll work to get it. This also helps avoid Post-Reinforcement Pause.
