When a dog creates associations to an aversive stimulus with something other than what we intended. It’s a type of “flash-bulb” memory. Prong collars and electronic collars, when not used sensitively, lend themselves well to superstitious associations. Most of the time these are problematic, but there are positive outcomes in rare instances.
